I hope you all are having a wonderful start to the new year! Just a little bit of admin before we get started with this post, the winner for the Tressemé giveaway has been announced here, so be sure to check it out. And if you weren’t the lucky winner this time around, do not fret as I have a few more giveaways lined up – so I’m holding thumbs for you! Now onto today’s post..
Throughout the latter part of 2015, I noticed that there were some products that I just couldn’t live without – and well still can’t live without! And the best part is, all of them are below R200 each, which means it’s perfect for those of you on a budget!
L.A Girl Nudes Palette
Okay, so this one needs no introduction. I’m sure all of you have either heard of it or own it, so you already know of the greatness within this palette.
I love that it contains both day and night friendly shades which means, it’s the only eyeshadow palette you’ll ever need if neutral/gold-toned/rosegold toned eyes are your thing.
For day, I usually use the shades towards the left of the palette which are mostly matte with the exception of a light shimmery gold-toned shadow. And for a night out, I build on the day shades using the rest of the palette.
For just R90, I think it is a must-have for every girl!
L.A Girl Lip Liner in Deepest Purple and Essence Lipstick in Cool Nude
Mixing the L.A Girl Lip Liner in Deepest Purple with the Essence Lipstick in Cool Nude is one of my favorite lip combos ever!
This Cool Nude shade will look good on any skin tone and is especially great for those of you with an Indian/Olive skin tone – I know just how hard it is to find a nude lipstick that looks good on us!
This lippie is creamy and moisturizing enough to use on its own however I love a lip with a little bit of colour so I apply the L.A Girl Liner in Deepest Purple all over my lips and then follow up with this Cool Nude lipstick from Essence to produce an almost mauve-ish shade which works really well!
The only thing that I’ve noticed with the L.A Girl liners is that firstly is doesn’t have much staying power, it usually needs to be reapplied after an hour or two and it can really accentuate dry lips, therefore it’s super important to moisturize the lips with a balm before applying!
Both of these retail for just under R40 each and I will say that, even though, the Cool Nude Lippie from Essence is a shade that needs to be in your makeup bag, the lip liner isn’t the best. I use it solely for creating that specific lip colour combo and because I haven’t found another purple liner in a shade that suits me.
Revlon Bold Lacquer Mascara
This definitely is one of the more affordable mascaras that I’ve come across and Dischem is always running promos on it too – sometimes you can get 2 for the price of one, which is definitely worth it.
I think a lot of people underestimate this mascara or believe that due to the above mentioned promos, it’s basically a sucky product. But it actually isn’t.
It doesn’t clump, it doesn’t flake or make my lashes hard, all it takes is 2 coats to add a lot of length and volume to my lashes and is easily removed with my cleansing balm.
It’s basically everything a girl could ask for in a mascara! And for R160 (for most likely 2 of these beauts) it’s so, so worth it!
Inglot Gel Eyeliner
This one for me is at Holy-Grail status for sure! There’s not much that I can say for it besides that it’s my secret to creating the perfect winged liner. It’s as black as eyeliner could possibly be, doesn’t rub off and lasts until you wash it off but the best part of it is that it is so easy to apply.
All you need is an angled brush and perhaps a makeup tutorial on YouTube, if you’re unsure on how to apply it! And you will have the perfect liner every time, I swear!
The gel eyeliner retails for just R170 (well, it did when I bought it) and is the BEST liner I have ever used. Those of you who will rather choose the Rimmel/Catrice liners that cost R50-R80, don’t. This liner is everything! And it will last you ages too -so long as you don’t leave the lid open and let it dry out – so girls on budget, make the most of your cash and get this liner from Inglot. You won’t regret it.
