Event: Launch of The Hayaa Box | Photoshoot

If you’ve been active on Instagram lately, you are bound to have come across The Hayaa Box – if not, let me fill you in!

The Hayaa Box is South Africa’s first subscription box for Muslim women. Each month, you can expect a beautifully wrapped box containing one of THB’s signature maxi scarves (in a gorgeous colour, of course!), at least one sample-sized (international or local) makeup, skincare or lifestyle product and to top it all of, matching hijab accessories to complement the scarf of the month.

Will you be attending Decorex Durban?

Even though I love fashion, interior décor and design never really interested me – until recently.

In 2013, I decided to redecorate my bedroom and ever since then, I haven’t stopped looking at various IG pages and Pinterest boards that focus on interior décor and design – there’s just something about looking at all of those beautiful homes, rooms and closets and becoming hopeful that one day, you too could have your fabulous interiors featured on an IG page or Pinterest board.

Rain Africa Event 2015

I cannot believe that it’s been so long since I’ve updated Veiled Beauty. I had so many posts already written up, including a review on some POND’S, Tressemè and Nature’s Carnival goodies, and had snapped all the relevant photos for VB too – unfortunately, my dearest camera, with the above mentioned photos, and my laptop, with all of the posts, was stolen and I basically lost everything.

I’ve been so bummed about it that I couldn’t bring myself to blog or take photos for any new blog posts, solely because I have to use this crappy iPhone camera after I’ve gotten so used to my DSLR 😔.
Anyway, I’m trying to move past it now and hopefully will be more regular here on VB. Also, I do apologize if my blog photos, from this post onwards, are kind off sucky, but it really is the thief’s fault. On to the event..

Durban Fashion Fair 2015 Roundup + Backstage Photos

If you’re active on social media or just generally aware of what’s going in the world, particularly SA (like you should be!), then you’re bound to have heard of Durban Fashion Fair that was held last week.

Besides the pop-up stores, DFF hosted various fashion shows featuring designs from local and international designers including Jamal Taslaq from Rome, Thula Sindi and Life by Andre Martin, to name a few, that took place this past Wednesday through Saturday – and the guys over at MAC cosmetics were cool enough to invite me for all of the shows, so I really did get to experience it for myself.

Event: 27 Pinkx High Tea

Last Thursday night, a few of us Durban bloggers were lucky enough to attend the Durban launch of 27 Pinkx. A night of socializing and tea-drinking was on the agenda, and it was such fun!

may 001

I’m sure you all know everything that there is to know about 27 Pinkx, and if you don’t, then where have you been all this time? 27 Pinkx is the brainchild of sisters Khatija and Anjum Ahmed. These ladies are super talented and sell everything from makeup brushes to cosmetics and even the much sought after Acrylic Makeup Organizers. If you love pink, makeup and all things girly then you will definitely love 27 Pinkx.

Okay, so let me tell you about our spectacular Thursday evening. The event was held at the Beverly Hills Hotel in Umhlanga, and honestly, 27 Pinkx and Danielle couldn’t have chosen a better venue for our oh-so-girly High Tea. As we sat down to enjoy a cup of tea, or hot chocolate in my case, we were able to look out through the glass doors and watch the amazing sunset. And as day turned into night, we really watched the venue transform. By night, as the crystal chandeliers shone brightly, the venue morphed into one that just exuded glamour, elegance and sophistication. It was the perfect setting for our High Tea.

The High Tea proved to be a great opportunity for us to get to know Khatija (half of 27 Pinkx) and Danielle (PR) , who are both extreme sweethearts just by the way! We got to chat to them about all things 27 Pinkx and makeup related and about everything and anything else! I really enjoyed all the socializing that I got up to, especially with my fellow Durban bloggers who are always fun to be around. Whilst the ladies munched on some macaroons and the rest of the treats available, I got a chance to play around with the 27 Pinkx eye and lip palettes. From all of the palettes, the Naughty palette has to be my favourite. The shadows contained are all neutral and totally suitable for olive skin tones. What I love most about it though, is that it has matte shadows for day and shimmery ones for night – a total yay for versatile palettes!

We also got to take home a set of their amazing brushes which I absolutely adore! The white ones are made from pony hair and the black ones are synthetic but they both work equally as great! Total awesomeness!

All in all, I had an amazing time socializing and playing around with the makeup. Thank you Danielle and 27 Pinkx for having us! If you want to see more of what 27 Pinkx has to offer, go on and check them out here. Also, if you love the brush set as much as I do, you might want to keep an eye on my blog (perhaps, on Sunday?) – I’ve got a set to give away to one lucky fish 😀

Event: Durban Blogger Meet

I was lucky enough to be afforded the fab opportunity of attending Durban’s first ever blogger meet, this past Saturday – and boy, was it uhmaaaazing!

20140408-123417.jpg

So here’s all thee deets:

The Venue:
The meet was held at the fairly new Hashtag Social Restaurant, located at 18 Windermere Road. Hashtag has an uber cool setup and awesome atmosphere. They have these bright yellow chairs and tables that have totally adorable teal stands – it’s so quirky and cute, my kind of style! And they have these oh-so-huge windows that allow all the sunlight to shine through which brightens up the whole room. It’s basically an amazing place to chill out, soak up the sun and have some fun!

Unfortunately, they aren’t Halaal so I couldn’t taste their food, but I did have a cup of coffee, which was surprisingly delish – I’m a tea lover and I almost never drink coffee, so for me to say it was good, then it totally must have been!

So what did you lucky ladies get up to at the meet?
We mingled at first and got to meet and greet our fellow Durban bloggers, munched on some cupcakes, macarons and cake pops and we had some amazing people from great brands address us.

We had Mandy from Kitten Action telling us all about the amazing and truly inspiring work that she does for all the darling, little homeless kitties.

Brett (I think his name was Brett? Someone correct me if I’m wrong!) from Fry’s Food also took time out to chat to us about the importance of eating more veggies and less meat and we received some vouchers from them too! It’s so awesome because all of their items are certified by SANHA. YAY!

There were also 2 lovely ladies from Lenovo, who chatted to us about Lenovo’s new tablet, The Yoga 8. It’s flippen’ amazing, it’s  super skinny, lightweight and uber simple to use. And guess what?? They were also giving away TWO, yes TWO, Yoga 8 tablets! I know, totes cray, but unfortunately I wasn’t one of thee lucky winners! Perhaps next time 😦

The lovely and super sweet Karen from Philosophia Botanica was there too. She chatted to us about all of their amazing products and even brought some for us to try out.  Their products smell so invigorating but what I love the most is that none of their products contain parabens, artificial colors, mineral oil, silicone or any animal raw materials. Superb!

Awesome! And what about the goodie bag? How was it??

The goodie bag was fan-frikken-tastically, unbelievably awesome! Thanks to Michelle, Verushka and Nicola we had tons of amazing sponsors that provided such amazing goodies for us! We are so lucky and so blessed to have been spoilt that much.

Event: Rain Africa

Last Saturday, Rain Africa held an amazing event for us Durban bloggers, and I was lucky enough to be invited.

20140320-212051.jpg

I know my post is a bietjie delayed but unfortunately I was stuck studying for my tests, so I didn’t get a chance to do the post until today ☺️! My dearest and sincerest apologies! Now for thee nitty gritty:

What was the event all about?
Well, it was basically an introduction to Rain, what it’s brand stands for, how their products are made and what their products are made from.

Our amazing hosts for the event were thee super cool guys, Yusuf and Ryan, of Rain Gateway. They put together an insightful presentation on everything Rain which was pretty awesome – all slides were handmade from recyclable material –
too cool.

So what did you learn about Rain?
Well a little over a year ago, a wonderful and amazing woman, Beverly Missing, created Rain. What started of as a little soap-making adventure in her garage has turned into a fully fledged factory with over 60 worker bees making these amazing products.

Through Beverly’s business and brand she has impacted the lives of so many, by creating job opportunities for those that were poverty stricken, unemployed and/or illiterate. Not only does she run a business, she has created a family too. What I find amazing is that no matter what hardships her worker bees face, they still come to work with a smile on their face and love in their hearts. They even say a prayer at the beginning of each working day, asking for their love to reach us, each and every time we use a Rain product. So sweet, I know!

What I love about Rain products, is that it’s simply quality, hand-made products that are created from the bounties given to us by Mother Nature. Products that are made by people for people. It truly can not get better than that.

Their products contain no parabens,
petroleum jelly, mineral oil, liquid paraffin or petrochemicals. And oh yes, no products are tested on animals nor are any of the products produced by children. Double YAY!

Awesome! So where was the event held?
The event was held at the beautiful and oh-so-serene Makaranga Lodge in Kloof. Clear skies paired with the breathtaking views of the natural greenery made this the perfect venue. It felt like a whole other world upon entering, I sort of felt like I was in the movie The Secret Garden – just surrounded by so much beauty and serenity, it was great! I’ll definitely be making a trip back there soon, and you should too. You’ll defo enjoy it, I promise!

20140324-075541.jpg

So what else did you lucky ladies get up to??
We had Cameron ( This isn’t her correct name, I think it’s Tracey, but I call her Cameron due to her uncanny resemblance to Cam Diaz ☺️) from Tsonga handmade, who showed us just how difficult it is to make your own skoene. We each were a given a shoe, a needle and some thread and were told to create one stitch, yup just one. It took me 5 minutes to get one stitch completed and then Cameron tells us that the ladies over at Tsonga make a pair of these shoes in about 45 minutes – and that’s when I hung my head in shame – those ladies are so talented!

20140324-075717.jpg

20140324-075157.jpg

We were also treated to soothing hand massages from Ronelle, tasty mixed juices and a very yummy looking cake!
20140324-075759.jpg

The cake is an exact replica of one of Rain’s gift boxes, I think, for the Savannah range. So pink and gorgeous, I love it!

20140324-075557.jpg

We also got to try out a few of the Rain products. My fav has to be the Savannah range. It smells exactly like DKNY women, I swear. It’s as if DKNY is mixed in there, somewhere. It’s not, but it smells just like it!

20140324-075510.jpg

We even got a great goodie bag, with Rain’s new product, the tree mist, and I also received the Biologie hand lotion – both if which I love! I just can’t get enough. And if you’d like to purchase some of Rain’s gorgeous goodies you can find them in Gateway (across Call It Spring), at the V&A (near Lush and The Body Shop) or you can conveniently shop online.

20140324-075646.jpg

Okay, so that’s that. It was just a great event spent with great people and great products. I would definitely do it all over again!
