Dove’s Oxygen Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner Review

Before I started wearing a scarf full-time, I had hair that was thick, bouncy and full of volume, however, due to the constant downward pressure that my scarf applies to my scalp, I’m now left with hair that lacks volume and that is much thinner than before.
So, naturally, when Dove sent me their Oxygen  Moisture Range to test out and review, I was really excited to see if it will make any difference to my hair whatsoever!

Go the healthy way with Healthway products

A few weeks ago, I was introduced to Healthway which is a phenomenal brand that specializes in 100% natural products that aim to get rid of skin & health problems. Their products range from personal skin care products to detox products and slimming products and even supplements. I’m pretty sure that they have a solution for every skin issue out there.
The amazing peeps over at Healthway sent me two of their wonderful products, that I will be reviewing today!

IMG_0830.JPG

I received the No.1 Living Clay Cream and the No.1 Recovery Living Clay and considering that I have been using these products for the last few weeks, I think it’s time I share my thoughts on these products with you guys.

No.1 Living Clay Cream
As this cream is formulated for those with combination-normal skin and benefits those suffering from eczema, itchy skin, dry & sensitive skin, sunburn and sun allergies, I opted to use it on my body and not on my face as I don’t think it’s suitable for acne-prone skin (or it would have stated that on the bottle).

IMG_0813

I basically use it as a body lotion and I’m quite happy with the results. I don’t really suffer from the skin conditions that were listed on the bottle, however my knees and elbows do tend to get a little dry from time to time and I’ve noticed that this product stops this from happening.
In general, my body feels quite smooth and nourished when I apply the Living Clay Cream on to it and it also easily absorbs into the skin which is always appreciated. The cream isn’t artificially fragranced which means that it’s suitable for those with sensitive skin too.

The Living Clay Cream is also wonderful for soothing burns and sores. I say that because a few days after I received the product, I accidentally burnt myself around my stomach area. And normally, a burn would cause my skin to bubble or scar, but the morning after I burnt myself I applied a layer of the Living Clay Cream and it immediately soothed it and stopped that eerie, burning sensation.

I’d definitely purchase this product again and at just R90 for a 150ml tub it’s definitely worth it.

No.1 Recovery Living Clay
“Living Clay” is one of natures most effective and tested 100% Natural Healing Materials. Montmorillonite, which is the sole ingredient of Living Clay, is legendary and universally renowned for its therapeutic qualities. It is known for it’s ability to absorb positively charged ions in the body. When wet the Clay develops a strong negative charge. whilst toxins, heavy metals, bacteria and most viruses are positively charged, the Clay therefore draws the impurities out like a magnet.

IMG_0824

The Living Clay was really simple to use, all that’s needed is to make a little paste using the clay and water, and then apply either to your entire face or the affected areas. I chose to to just spot treat the areas that had active pimples, I left the clay on for about 25min whilst keeping it damp throughout it’s time on my skin and then washed it off.
I noticed a huge difference when whiteheads were concerned, after washing off the clay the whiteheads would literally be gone, leaving behind just a little red mark that will vanish in about 3 days.

IMG_0827

The Living Clay also stimulates circulation, is anti-bacterial and can be used on open wounds therefore it is suitable for those suffering from eczema, psoriasis, rashes, sun burn and even sun damaged skin. The clay also doubles as a mild exfoliator, so when washing off, just rub in a circular motion to begin exfoliating. I’m convinced that the clay will also aid in reducing your pore size and blackheads as it does draw out impurities and bacteria which are the main causes for these skin issues.

I will definitely start using the Living Clay as a face mask soon, but for now I’m really pleased with the results I’m achieving with spot treating. And you can be sure that once this product is finished I’ll definitely be purchasing it again. The 250 ml tub which retails for R210 is equivalent to 25 full face masks which is approximately over 300 spot treats – definitely worth purchasing if you suffer from a ton of whiteheads and pimples.

If you suffer with a dry, itchy and flaking scalp along with oily hair, consider trying Head & Shoulders’ Dry & Itchy Scalp Care

An itchy and flaking scalp paired with oily hair, is just not on! You don’t want to be at an event and then have an urge to scratch your scalp and risk having all the flakes fall onto your amazing new black dress -ugh! To avoid all this drama and unnecessary embarrassment, I suggest you try this little darling out. The results are truly phenomenal.

photo

I have been suffering with all of the above for the past year or so, and I had tried every single shampoo on the shelf, including baby shampoo, but nothing worked.

My scalp was itching like crazy and it was so  flaky, and then I’d touch the top of my head and it was oily – and I couldn’t understand why- I was washing my hair everyday, but still no change. I had no idea what was going on. Like how can my scalp be dry but hair be oily? It was just totes annoying.

I spoke to my hairstylist and she said that I need to try a professional hair care range etc etc and it was obvi that she was trying to convince me to buy it right there and then.

But being a student, I was on a budget and rather unwilling to spend a sh*t load of money on a product/s that I wasn’t even sure would work, so I told her I’d get back to her. And thank god I never had to resort to such expensive products, because a few days later my mom and I popped into Dischem. We decided to visit their hair care aisle to see if it stocked anything that could possibly help with all my hair issues and, lo and behold, there it was – this amazing genius ‘Dry & Itchy Scalp Care’ formula from Head & Shoulders – sitting on the shelf, waiting for me to take it home.

I had my reservations about the results that it would produce, but after about 5 washes my hair was healthy and normal again. No itchiness, dryness, oiliness or flakes. Just normal, clean, great smelling hair. Truly great. I tell you.

But bear in mind that these results are achieved only with continuous use. If you stop using it, all of your unfortunate hair issues will make it’s way back into your life. So in my opinion, stock up on this baby! Buy at least 4 or 5 at a time, it sells for only R34,95, making a simultaneous multiple purchase possible. Oh yeaaaaah!

Hope you are having a happy hair day!

Why you shouldn’t be using Faiza Beauty Cream

The problem with women is that we are never happy in our own skin. We are always wanting to change our physical appearance to conform to what society thinks is beautiful. We don’t appreciate what God has blessed us with, and probably never will. We can not agree or accept that beauty includes every shape, size and colour. And I think this is the main reason for the unfortunate success of Faiza Beauty Cream in South Africa.

What I call : The Killer Cream

What I call : The Killer Cream

In Durban, girls have gone crazy for this cream. And not so that it can remove their pimples or dark marks, but because it makes their skin fairer with continued use.

This cream works, it provides results within days of using it with no side effects in the short term, but what about the long term?
How can this cream work so fast? Other products which cost hundreds and maybe even thousands of rands need at least a month to show its results, but how does Faiza Beauty Cream work so fast?

The product has been on the market for only 13 years, no one knows what is contained in this product and it isn’t even dermatologically tested. Some people have even said that it contains Mercury – which is highly possible, as this could be the explanation for the fast and effective results from Faiza Beauty Cream. But yet, no one seems to be bothered by this.

If you are paying R50 for a product, which is produced in Pakistan from ingredients unknown to you, isn’t dermatologically tested but somehow provides such quick and amazing results, how do you not have questions? How are you okay with using it day after day? What if it does contain Mercury? What if as time goes by, it blackens and burns your skin? What if it starts to affect your health and your organs? It is obviously stripping your skin layer by layer, that is how it whitens your skin, and have you ever thought that this may make you more susceptible to skin cancer? How do you continue using it without these concerns?

Ladies, I know that living in today’s world is tough, but why would use such a product on your skin? There are so many unknowns and so many things that could go wrong, so why would you want to chance it?

Is your beauty in the short term more important than your health in the long run? Ask yourself that question the next time that you decide to put that possible killer cream on your face. And remember we all are beautiful, and if we truly believe that then we can change what society considers beautiful.

Sandalwood Powder and Rosewater: The natural way to achieve gorgeous skin

My skin feels amazing after using a paste of sandalwood powder and rosewater. It’s basically a mask that helps to even out skin tone, reduce dark marks, acne and acne scars and give you gorgeous glowing skin over time.
It works so well because rosewater cools, calms and tones the skin whilst the sandalwood powder, due to its anti-inflammatory properties and powerful antioxidants, reduces pimples and lightens any dark spots.
It’s super simple to make this paste, all you need is, well, sandalwood powder and rosewater. Mix 3 parts sandalwood powder to 1-2 parts rosewater – the consistency must be thick enough to stay on the skin but liquid enough to be spreadable. It should look something like this:
Yeah, so it does look a bit ikky..but it makes your skin feel ahmaaazing

Yeah, so it does look a bit ikky..but it makes your skin feel ahmaaazing

This paste should be applied once a day and should be kept on the skin for about 30-60 min. You may experience some tingling, that’s normal, but if it becomes unbearable you can remove the paste from the tingling areas.
You can find Sandalwood powder in any Indian spice shop – I got a 50g packet for just R9.99 from Gorima’s. I know super duper cheap, right?
However, pure and organic rosewater may not be so easy to find. Checkers, Pick ‘n Pay, and even the Indian spice shops sell rosewater, but this isn’t the pure one. It’s usually just rose-scented water – which will do absolutely nothing for your skin or alternatively might make your skin worse! But I did find this 100ml bottle of Good Life Organic’s Rosewater for R82.00 from Faithful to Nature, it’s works well with my skin, smells amazing and it is packaged in a super cool spray bottle!
You can also use this paste:
  • to lighten skin;
  • to achieve softer skin;
  • as an anti-aging treatment and
  • to calm down breakouts.
Turmeric powder may also be added to the paste, however you might end up with a yellow tinge on your face and fingers – not cool. Some people also use milk instead of rosewater – I tried this out but unfortunately, the milk did not agree with my skin. 😦
All in all, If you are looking for a way, to get gorgeous-glowing-even toned-acne free skin, I suggest you give this paste a go, you will be surprised with the results!
Oh yes, please note that it takes time to work – like after a month/ a month and a half of daily use you should be able to see a difference in your skin,. Just be patient, dear.

Monday Morning Madness: My 3 minute beauty fix

Every Monday, no matter how early I set my alarm, I am late for campus. On a typical Monday morning, I usually rush out of the house with a slice of toast in my mouth and a cup of tea in my left hand, whilst attempting to lock my front door and gate, and trying desperately not to drop anything. Yup, my Monday mornings suck.
I realized what takes up the most time in the morning, is figuring out what to wear and applying my beauty products . Now, I can’t really  not wear clothes or go bare-faced to campus – so, I had to find a way to ensure that these daunting but totally essential tasks don’t take up so much of time.
I decided that my OOTD will be contemplated whilst I’m in the shower – head scarf, top, bottoms and shoes.  One task down, oh yeeeeah!
As soon as I get out the shower, I begin my 3 minute beauty fix. 7 items in 3 minutes – yes, it’s totally possible!
I chose the 7 items that will make the most  impact. Plus, I am going to campus so I don’t want to look OTT or like I just painted my face on, therefore sticking to just 7 items was a good plan.
Each item takes no longer than 30 seconds to apply, I kid you not, and here they are:

1) Dermalogica Active Moist (30 seconds)

You can’t start a day without moisturizer. You simply can not. No question about it. It’s a sin and a crime and totally frowned upon! Apply moisturizer every day. Every frikken day. More than once too, if needed.

I usually use different moisturizers depending on the weather. And since it is almost summer, Active Moist works quite well. It’s keeps my skin moisturized all day and I don’t experience any breakouts, which is awesome!
meep 039
I apply an almond-sized ( because pea-sized is just unrealistic!) amount of Active moist to my neck and face.
2) Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara (30 seconds)
I love this mascara. It lengthens my lashes and creates volume without clumping or making my lashes dry and flaky.
meep 028
I apply 3 coats – without allowing the prior coat to dry before applying the next – because I simply don’t have the time to let them dry first.
3) Stila Eyeshadow in Kitten (30 seconds)
This eyeshadow is heavenly! It has great staying power and achieves the same look regardless if it applied with a brush or your finger.
meep 038
I apply a dot this eyeshadow, to the inner corners of my eyes, using my pinky. This helps to awaken the eye, and makes you appear fresh and well rested.
4) Catrice Smokey Eye Pencil (30 seconds)
I can not live without this eye pencil. I never leave home without eyeliner, therefore I never leave home without this beaut!
I just glide this baby onto my lower waterline and smile because I know I will never hear anyone tell me that I look sick or tired. Woohoo!
5)  Smashbox Blush Rush in Peony (30 seconds)
This is one of the best blushes I’ve come across in a long, long time  – it is not too pigmented but neither is it too light. It is the perfect shade.
meep 032meep 034
I lightly dab my blush brush onto the compact and easily sweep it across my cheeks. Perfectly rosy cheeks in seconds 🙂
6) Lancôme Lipstick in Rouge (15 seconds)
This is a red lipstick. Yes, it is. But take a look at my swatches below. Both swatches are of the same lipstick in the same shade, but the one on the right is achieved by applying a minimal amount and then  blending it in. It still maintains some of it’s color without being overbearing, which is perfect for that just-bitten look.

7) Softlips Pure Papaya Organic Lip conditioner (15 seconds)
I’ve been using Softlips ever since I can remember. It’s great because it’s super slim and can easily slip into your pocket and it makes your lips feel super duper amazing.
meep 036
This particular one, has a yummy Papaya scent, sometimes I just want to eat up my lips, relax..I’m kidding!..Nope actually, I’m not.
After applying my Lancôme Lipstick, I apply two coats of my tasty Papaya Softlips, pop in to my pocket/ bag and then apply it throughout the day. Smooth, healthy lips all day long 🙂

Dear Acne, soon it will be as if you never existed..

For years I have been suffering with a terrible case of acne. I tried a zillion products, such as Dermologica, Essence, Clean and Clear, Young Solution, Simple, Eucerin, Clearasil and many, many others which never worked.  These failed attempts at ridding myself of acne just left me depressed and I always found myself being super conscious of my skin. But finally, things are looking up.

I realised my acne was caused by a number of factors – stress, eating habits, hormones, the weather and the environment. Once I identified the factors that were aggravating my acne, I could develop a plan to minimize the effects of these factors on my skin.

Factor 1: Stress

I noticed that whenever it was nearing test/exam time – you know, the time we all go crazy and run around like headless chickens – my skin would go crazy and I would experience breakouts on my cheeks and chin.

To combat this I took a 10 minute break, for every 45 minutes of studying, to perform a breathing exercise (inhale for 10secs, hold for 10secs and exhale for 10secs) and to drink a glass of water. I really felt calm and collected after the breathing exercise, so whenever I feel overwhelmed or stressed, I just breatheJ

Factor 2: Eating Habits

Chocolate, greasy take away food,  fizzy drinks and almonds could not be eaten without me breaking out the following day.

So now I swop :

  • the greasy take away food for healthy ones such as Kauai,
  •  almonds for cashews,
  •  fizzy drinks for pure fruit juice and
  •  I only eat chocolate once in a month (sigh, extremely sad, I know).

I also ensure that I eat one fruit a day and drink at least 4 litres of water a day.

Factor 3: Hormones

Every month just before my menstrual cycle, I break out into tons of little pimples on my forehead, I’m using Lamelle’s  Acnevelle Capsules to counteract the effects that my hormones have on my skin. I have noticed a significant decrease in the size of my breakouts since I have been using Acnevelle, which is awesome

Factor 4: The weather

Whenever it was hot and humid, my skin would become very itchy and red and then slowly but surely little pimples would appear.  My skin is extremely sensitive, so the weather is bound to affect it. However, the solution was simple – use nature against nature!  I’m Indian and Indian families can’t get enough of rose water – it has some sort of healing/calming powers or whatever. Anyway, I logged on to Faithful to Nature and purchased this bottle of Rose Water and I love it. I take it with me to campus every day and whenever I feel hot or flustered, I just spray some on to my face and aaaah – instantly calm skin!

meep 135

My acne isn’t totally gone, but it has significantly improved so I believe everything I do is working for sure!

Do you have a problem with acne or sensitive skin? How did you combat it? Would love to hear from you guys!

I use Elizabeth Arden’s Intervene Foundation to achieve gorgeous, glowing skin

For the past few years, I have been obsessed with discovering the secret to
achieving a gorgeous, radiant glow on the skin using make up – and I’ve finally got it!

Here’s what you will need:

  1. Foundation (see step 1)
  2. Foundation Brush
  3. Stila’s All over Shimmer Liquid Luminizer in Kitten
  4. Rose Water

meep 109

Step 1: Find a suitable foundation.

I have very sensitive skin, so I was searching for a product that:

  • had a sun protectant factor:
  • wouldn’t irritate my skin or make me breakout and
  • wouldn’t cake up or look like like I just painted my face on.

And so, after experimenting with foundations of different brands, I eventually found my perfect fit. Elizabeth Arden’s Intervene range of foundation in the shade ‘Soft Toast’ suited me perfectly.

Step 2: Mix 2 parts foundation to 1 part of Stila’s Liquid Luminizer in Kitten

On the back of your hand, mix 2 parts foundation to 1 part of Stila’s Liquid Luminizer in Kitten (see review here). The luminizer is essential as this is what gives you the beautiful, radiant glow. However, be sure not to add too much luminizer, you don’t want to shine that bright now .

Step 3: Spray rose water on to your face

After cleansing and moisturizing, spray a little bit of rose water on to your face. Rose water is great for toning and calming the skin, and it helps to achieve a smoother, silkier finish.

Step 4: Apply luminized foundation to wet face.

Before applying the foundation mix, ensure that the rose water has not yet been absorbed by the skin. It needs to be in liquid form in order to homogenize (mix well) with the foundation to achieve the smooth and silky finish.

And that’s it! Just 4 items and 4 mini steps to achieve gorgeous, glowing skin. Here’s to glowing skin, woohoo!
